Spring Sports updates

24 Jan from Brazos Christian School

Howdy Eagles!

We hope everyone survived the cold spell that hit us this last week. We are so excited for warmer weather to settle into the Brazos Valley! With that comes our spring sports seasons. Several teams have begun practices and other will soon be starting. Our coaching staff will have several new additions to our spring sports offerings and we are blessed to have all of them on board to help support, teach, and grow our student-athletes.

Varsity Golf:

We are please to have Charissa Kolkhorst lead our golf teams this spring. Coach Kolkhorst is the mother of two BCS students (Michael and Mandryk). She is a former Texas A&M golfer and will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our program. She would like to have a brief team meeting Tuesday January 28th at 3:00 pm to introduce herself to the team and to inform them of practice plans for the spring. When they get into full swing she will have a parent meeting to layout the season plan.

Varsity Track and Field:

We are please to announce that Brandi Cooper and Sara Urban will be joining and helping lead our track and field program. Coach Cooper and Coach Urban bring a passion for BCS athletics and will be an excellent addition as we build our track and field program to newer heights. Coach Cooper has one student here (Claire) and Coach Urban has two students here (Ty and Robert).

We will have a brief all-athlete meeting during athletics period on January 30th (2:46 pm) to go over the season and to invite and encourage more student-athletes to join the team. Track and Field is a great sport for all athletes to participate in as it translates well to all sports.

Varsity Tennis:

We are pleased to announce that Emma Grace VanNorman has been promoted to the head coach of the Varsity tennis team. Coach EG is a 2023 graduate of BCS and has a strong passion for teaching the game. As a player for BCS, Emma Grace was a top ranked player in TAPPS and our region. She has demonstrated a strong knowledge of the game and is a tremendous leader. We are looking forward to watching her grow our tennis program.

Varsity Softball:

We are also pleased to announce that Bebette Heinish will be leading our Varsity Softball team. Coach Heinish has one son here at BCS (Joah). She brings a ton of experience coaching Softball at the high school level and will be a great addition to our coaching staff. Alongside of Coach Heinish will be Dallas Tolson. Coach Tolson will be assisting the team this year along with her other duties on campus. She also is the mother of a BCS student (Emma)We are blessed to have them lead our Softball program this season and beyond.

Junior High Tennis:

Nathan Nesmith will be leading our Junior High Tennis team this year. Coach Nesmith is a teaching pro at Traditions Club and brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience teaching and coaching tennis at a variety of levels. He is a recent A&M graduate and worked with the A&M tennis team as a student. We are looking forward to his leadership and coaching this spring.

Brazos Christian School is blessed to add these coaches to help lead our student-athletes this spring and beyond. Please join us in prayer for these teams and coaches.
